While many may be aware of the benefits of turmeric for us humans, did you know that it is extremely beneficial for your furry friends? Both dogs and cats can benefit from this superfood and it’s backed by research. In the form of Golden Paste, it’s highly bioavailable, cheap and pretty easy to make. The perfect accompaniment to a good quality raw diet. Why?
Turmeric is rich in curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory thought to be more potent than many NSAIDs. If your pet suffers from arthritis or uncomfortable allergies, Golden Paste is a fantastic addition to the diet for pain relief.
With its anticoagulant properties, curcumin has been shown to improve the function of the lining of the blood vessels, reduce cardiovascular complications, regulate blood pressure and decrease blood clots.
Oxidant damage is a precursory factor in the development of many diseases and the aging process. Free radicals have a negative interaction with fatty acids and proteins and can cause long-term cellular damage. Curcumin is a powerful anti-oxidant which helps to neutralise these free radicals. It has even been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and target and kill further development. It’s not a cure but it’s most definitely on our side in the fight.
Curcumin is thought to aid an improvement in memory and attention and, while these studies are at an early stage, a preventative factor against cognitive decline in old age. It stands to reason, as many of these cognitive issues, such as Alzheimer’s, inflammatory diseases of the brain.
A reduction in gastrointestinal side-effects, alleviation of Irritable Bowl Syndrome and management of Irritable Bowl Syndrome have all been associated with curcumin in scientific studies.
While your pet will certainly benefit from all of the above, they may not be up to date with the latest scientific research. A nice side-effect that we’ve noticed, however, will certainly be of interest to them. At least in our HQ- they absolutely love it! Have a fusspot or simply want to introduce some variety and new smells into their dinner-bowl? Why not whip up a batch of Golden Paste as a meal topper? It really is a win-win!
