Our Frenchie used to get severe back pain on a regular basis to the point we had him checked for IVDD which was inconclusive because we didn't pay for a very expensive scan. After we switched him from kibble to raw kangaroo 2/3rds and kibble 1/3rd, he developed much more muscle and his back pain completely vanished. He also spends 5 minutes licking the bowl after a meal so he seems to really love fresh kangaroo.
